I was enjoying a little quiet time in a local coffee shop the other day. I couldn't help but overhear giddiness, followed by a few awkward pauses and then gushes of stories that both people were tripping over to share. I soon realized that these lovely people next to me, were on a first date.
A first date can be filled with nervousness, awkwardness and uncertainty. It is all in the hopes to feel a connection. First dates do not always end with fireworks, but each date you go on, provides great learning into more about who you are, what you like and what you are looking for. It is a first date that opens a door to you!
I parallel a first date in the same way we feel when we are trying to get to know ourselves again. Sometimes it can be painful, unsettling and the awkwardness can be just the reason we do not go on date with ourselves again. But look at the flip side, dating can be fun!
Why dating yourself is so important?
Because this your time to connect with YOU. We are so often focused on others that we easily become disconnected from who we are, what makes us feel joy, exploring and being playful. These are all very important things for your growth and creating a rich and strong foundation with yourself.
What to do on your first date with you?
Try something you have not done for a long time or try something new. This could be going to a local museum, trying a new recipe, finding a new trail to explore, or getting in touch with your creative side by pulling out paints or markers. Just enjoy connecting with you!
How to enjoy a first date with you?
- Be open
- Show up on time
- Take time to listen to your heart, not your mind
- Be giddy & have fun!
- Be you
This month I encourage you to go on a date with YOU. Be open, try something new and use your creativity to find your connection!
