The poll is in... how do the latest results impact you?

Have you read the latest results from Healthy Minds Monthly Poll by the American Psychiatric Association (APA)? Here are a couple that I thought were worth noting as you get into 2023;

  • 29% plan to adopt New Year’s Resolutions related to mental health.
  • More than one in four (26%) reported they anticipated experiencing more stress at the start of 2023, up from one in five (20%) last year.
  • Nearly two out of five (37%) Americans rated their mental health as only fair or poor, up from 31% a year ago.

“Americans are telling us that they are concerned about their mental health going into the New Year and we must continue to prioritize our physical and mental wellness as a society,” said APA President Rebecca W. Brendel, M.D., J.D. “It’s concerning any time we hear Americans say that they are more stressed out and that their mental health is worse.”

No matter where you live the conversations are similar. And although this may seem worrying, the start of a new year is an ideal time to focus on improving your own mental health and well-being.

Do you want to know a top strategy for 2023 to take greater care of your mental wellbeing? It's rest and recovery.

It's important to rest and recover every day because it helps to restore both physical and mental energy. When we don't get enough rest, we may feel tired, irritable, and less able to concentrate.

Take a heathly break, take time to notice your senses, recognize your emotions, unplug from social media, and have quiet time for yourself with no distractions, even if it is for only five minutes a day.

When you build healthy breaks into your day, you can reduce stress and improve your mental well-being, which can have a positive impact on our overall health and happiness.

Quote of the week

"Without rest, the mind and body cannot fully recover and return to their optimal state. Take the time to rest and recharge, and you will be better equipped to handle the challenges that come your way." - Unknown

In case no one told you, you're amazing! Have a great rest of your day.
